Gujarat vs Bombay Ranji match started on 13th December 1988 in Bombay. While Dilip Vengsarkar was leading India vs New Zealand in Visakhapatnam on that day. Rajesh Chauhan of Madhya Pradesh also made his debut in Ranji this year. He got 5 wickets in 21 matches. His first match was 13-15 November 1988, taking 11 wickets for 69 runs against Rajasthan.
Maharashtra's Salil Ankola debuted in Pune on December 17-19, vs Gujarat. He scored 7 for 145 with a hat-trick and scored 43 runs with the bat. In that year, in Ranji, he also made 65 runs in 5 matches for 24 wickets and gave him the identity.
