Today counted as one of the black days in the history of English cricket, England were all out for 58 on the first day of the first test match against New Zealand. This is the 34th incident when England scored less than 100 in test innings. Bolt and Southee destroyed the England innings. At a time they were 27/9 which was on the verge of the second-lowest total in the history of test cricket.
It is a rare day of cricket, for the 213th time a team all out less than 100 in test innings and this is the 2299th test match. the lowest total is still 26 by Nz vs England in Auckland, 1955. England's lowest total is 45 vs Australia in 1887 and it was a 4 ball per over match ( although it was considered as a test match after 1894).
This for the 8th time when England scored less than 100 in the first innings of a test match. As many as 11 times they scored less than 100 in a test in the 19th century, 13 times in the 20th century and 10 times in the 21st century,
